What is GIS?

A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. GIS software is required to view shapefiles. Files are in .zip format. For specific data requests or maps, email the GIS office — there may be processing fees depending on the size of the request. Downloading these files means you agree to the terms of the Pickaway County disclaimer.

Note: All data is in ESRI shapefile format.

Various GIS data ZIP files are formatted for shapefile‑compatible software. Because these files require specialized GIS platforms, they cannot be fully converted to an accessible format.
